Larry Rue Elkin, 81, of Schaumburg, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2024, after struggling with heart problems.
Larry was born on May 26, 1943, and learned the value of hard work while growing up on farms in central Illinois. His "claim to fame" in those days was having the grand champion pig at the 4-H fair! After graduating from Paxton High School, he received his bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Over the years, he designed landscapes for sites such as the Schaumburg Motorola campus, golf courses, and community parks and playgrounds. Even after retirement, he managed to exercise his green thumb by tending the flowers and plants around his townhouse and the extensive lawn around his beloved church home, Our Saviour's United Methodist Church in Schaumburg.
