John Rudolph Zumbrunnen, 87; of Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, formerly of Seattle, WA and Overland Park, KS; passed away July 2, 2024, after a series of cardiac events.
Born in Massachusetts, John joined the military at the age of eighteen, serving in the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1963, After earning his college degree, John worked as a computer and data specialist then openedOverland Park Awards, where he engraved nameplates for awards and trophies.
An avid sportsman, John loved sailing, flying planes (owned his own Cessna), racing cars (restored his own Austin-Healy), and sipping Southern Comfort. Former president of the Kansas City Germania Club (awarded the 2008 William Gruening Award), member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and Prince of the Kansas City Mardi Gras Parade, along with his Princess/wife Ingrid.
Beloved spouse and best friend of 25 years to Ingrid Makowski Kaltenbach. Faithful companion of Heidi the Long-haired dachshund.
