Eleanor "Elly" BergeEleanor "Elly" Berge (nee Friborg), 98, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Elly was born March 5, 1926, in Chicago, IL, to Swedish immigrants, the late Gertrud (nee Nordstrom) and Bror Friborg. Elly attended Steinmetz High School, where she worked on the yearbook and was voted "Best Conversationalist" and "Best Dressed." Elly attended University of Dubuque, and returned to Chicago to become an executive secretary at Montgomery Ward.She met her future husband, Ed Berge in January of 1943 and they married in 1948, after Ed returned from WWll. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage and 80 years together as a loving couple. After living at the University of Iowa, Ed and Elly put down roots in Arlington Heights, where Elly became a homemaker who dedicated herself to her daughters activities by volunteering as a room mom, helping out with PTA activities, Blue Birds, Brownies, Girl Scouts, sewing dance costumes, hosting family gatherings, and serving as a cook
